Inguinal and Umbilical Hernias: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment

A hernia occurs when an organ or tissue pushes through a weak spot in the abdominal wall. Two common types are inguinal and umbilical hernias.

  • Inguinal Hernia:
Occurs in the groin area, where part of the intestine or fat protrudes through a weakness in the abdominal wall in the inguinal canal. It’s more common in men and children.
  • Umbilical Hernia:
Appears near the belly button, when part of the intestine or fat pushes through the abdominal wall around the navel. More common in children and women after pregnancy.

Common Symptoms:

  • A visible bulge or swelling in the affected area
  • Pain or discomfort, especially when moving, coughing, or lifting heavy objects
  • Sometimes, nausea or vomiting may occur if the hernia becomes trapped (incarcerated)

Treatment:

  • Hernias do not heal on their own and may worsen over time
  • The primary treatment is surgery to return the tissue to its place and strengthen the abdominal wall
  • At Evexia, we offer advanced hernia surgeries, including minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques for faster recovery and less pain
  • Postoperative care to ensure full return to normal activity

If you notice hernia symptoms or swelling, don’t hesitate to visit Evexia for proper evaluation and treatment.
